Context

Final Project for HCDD 364W at Penn State Univeresity. Local Student Buisness Discovery App for students and Buisness owners.

Problem

College students frequently struggle to discover local services (such as student tutors, hair stylists, small campus stores, and other local businesses providing services). At the same time, student entrepreneurs lack a dedicated channel to showcase their work and build local credibility. Without a unified, intuitive hub, connecting supporters to student sellers creates unnecessary friction for both sides.

Solution

In order to connect our local businesses to our supportive student customers, we designed a platform that promotes:

  • Discovery via Location and interactive maps.
    • Enables finding student businesses via the user's location
    • Shows different businesses on an interactive map.
  • Community Engagement & Feedback between community and local businesses
    • Allows users to interact with a business's page, sharing their thoughts and review
    • Allows business owners to view customer's thoughts, and communicate with them back (publicly or privately in DMs).
  • Business Management Tools
    • Allows business owners to view analytics and metrics, such as ratings, reviews, and content impression.

Process & Key Insights

  • User Interviews/Live Testing
    • Conducted Live testing via Zoom
    • Instructed Users on certain tasks
    • Then asked user feedback
